Nook & Wave (Board Craft LLC) began in 2022 in West Bloomfield, Michigan, with a vision to make furniture with a unique style and a contemporary, cozy feel, accessible to everyone.
Every piece begins as a hand-drawn model or concept. It is the first step in everything we make, whether we are drawing on our own or working alongside a client. There are so many ways a shelf can be formed, and, needless to say, this process makes a lot of scrap paper. Eventually we find something worth exploring: a form with a design and a feel of its own.
We take that idea into CAD software, where every part of it can be explored and fine-tuned: how far each wave swells and where it turns, how the cubes step and stack, how the whole piece sits in a room. The model is then converted into cuttable vectors for milling every shelf and column on the CNC, so the curves are exact and every fastener-free joint slides together perfectly and holds securely without a single screw.
We band every edge, then trim and sand it ourselves, clean each piece and pack it flat by hand to ship to your door. Your piece typically slides together in less than 30 minutes, and if you have any questions at all, we're happy to help.
Every detail of a model is investigated and thought through: the height and depth of the cubes, the balance and center of gravity of the piece, how it anchors to the wall, its form, size and height, and how large an item will fit on each shelf. We think through everything so that every piece is as functional as it is beautiful.
Tide's flowing curves and Terrace's stepped cubes come from one belief: a piece should soften the room and still stand out in it, whether that room is boho, modern, or cozy and contemporary.
